Hand-carved from natural soapstone, these beautiful lidded jars have their roots in traditional South Indian kitchens, where soapstone vessels have long been used for setting and storing curd. Naturally non-reactive and gently cooling, the stone creates an ideal environment for curd, yogurt, and other slow ferments.
But we love them just as much simply sitting out in the kitchen.
With their softly rounded shape, substantial weight, and beautiful natural variations in the stone, these jars are functional pieces that deserve a place on the counter. Use them for coffee, sugar, dried herbs, tea, cookies, or pantry staples—or simply as a beautiful vessel on an open shelf or kitchen island.
Each jar is individually carved by skilled artisans using traditional techniques, so variations in color, texture, and markings are part of its character. No two are exactly alike.

Care
These jars are intended for storage and fermentation only and should not be used on the stovetop or over any heat source.
Avoid sudden temperature changes. Allow warm ingredients to cool before transferring them to the jar to help prevent thermal shock.
Wash gently with warm water and a soft sponge. Avoid harsh detergents. Allow the jar to air-dry completely before storing, preferably with the lid off until all moisture has evaporated.
Traditional Use
Naturally cooling and non-reactive, soapstone is especially well suited for setting and storing curd or yogurt, helping create the cool, steady environment traditionally valued for fermentation.
