Artist Statement
Inspired by the idea that art helps us understand ourselves, each other, and the world around us, Llamas’ art focuses on history, culture, and philosophy through both beauty and mindfulness. With her first solo museum exhibition at age twenty-two, Llamas has been sharing her work for over 16 yrs and is most well known for her travel-inspired paintings, signature three-dimensional Virtue Ladders, symbolic storytelling, mirror-written text, and working with ground natural pigments on handmade recycled paper. Llamas’ paintings have exhibited in all fifty United States, London, Paris, Greece, Rome, and Switzerland with pieces residing in permanent collections including the Tennessee State Museum, Taube Museum of Art, and the Parthenon Museum. Kristin Llamas was born in Rochester, NY, but now lives in Nashville with her husband and three daughters.
