An impressive contemporary art pottery vase or vessel is handcrafted by noted Vermont ceramicist, Andrew Berends. Raku pottery originated in Japan during the the 16th century and was originally intended to be use as ceremonial tea ware. Berends' studio art pottery is a combination of Raku and contemporary design, with the stunning contrasting colors of turquoise blue, black, grey and hints of metallic shades. It's copper metallic glaze will develop a rich patina over time. Each piece is a one of a kind due to the type of process that is involved. Vessels are porous and cannot be filled with water.
