"Preserverance" Sculpture

"Preserverance" is approximately four feet wide in diameter. It is comprised of an 1800's steel wagon rim, forged steel and over 1500 pieces of hand cut 1800's Vermont roofing slate. Each piece of slate was hand cut and dried laid to form a negative space in which a geode is held in tension at the center. The final component added to complete the piece are piano strings from a 1907 Ben Franklin piano woven into a circle to unify the connection between the steel and the slate.  Made by Michael Alon in his Vermont Studio. Visit him at DaVallia @ 39 North to view additional sculpture.
